dc.description.abstractThe Sweden Democrats has been growing their political presence in the Swedish political climate over a few years. The party has been labelled as nationalistic and eurosceptic. However, in European Parliament election 2019 it seemed that the party’s political ideology changed. It got people questioning the party’s stance on the European Union question. Meanwhile in Europe the movements of euroscepticism and nationalism have grown stronger in more parties in various member states who wish to reduce the overall power by the European Union. Therefore, has the question about the shift in the ideology of the Sweden Democrats became a hot topic in Sweden. This essay occurs due to the perceived ideological shifted within the party. The essay will examine whether there was an ideological change in the Sweden Democrats or not. The Sweden Democrats political manifestos will be examining through two methods – one text analysis and one ideological analysis. The essay will shed the light on how the party has remained nationalistic but decrease in its eurosceptic tendencies. Thus, the objective in the thesis is to examine in what way the Sweden Democrats have shifted their ideological rhetoric to soften the criticism against the European Union and the reasons why.sv
