Spatial design for children nine to twelve years old at the Halmstad City Library. An investigation about the specific needs of the target group and how the child department can be designed to stimulate their experience of visiting the library. The aim was to create a spatial concept from the children’s ideas that inspires to playfulness and lust to read at the library. A more personal goal was to collaborate with an external part to prepare for my future role as a designer within child culture. I wanted to learn about planning and organizing workshops for children so it becomes a natural part in my future design process. From research and workshops it became clear that important functions for the target group are cosy places away from adults and younger children. The two cabins are two secluded places, own zones, were the tweens can meet, read, have fun and be social together. The design also have the functionality of bookshelves and are meant to be filled with books for the target group. A realization of the concept could in the long run create a new meeting place for this target group in Halmstad, an inspiring place in the city designed specific only for them. This could also strengthen the identity of the Library.sv
