Abstract

The work as obstetrician and gynecologist often involves emotional labour, deep and surface acting. Situations such as maternal near miss, female genitalia mutilation and obstetrical violence can result in emotional consequences for the Ob/Gyn such as anxiety, guilt and sadness. These emotions have to be laboured due to the professional role. This sociology study explores Swedish Ob/Gyns emotional labour in extra intense work situations via semi-structured interviews.
