Riktning av ämne med hjälp av falsar: riktning av ämne utifrån arbetsbeskrivningar av A. J. Roubo

Abstract

This work aims to reconstruct the main features of a work process, and the knowledge related to Roubo’s method of aligning wooden surfaces using a rabbet and winding sticks. It examines which tools were used, the order in which they were used, and their functional context. This study is based on Roubo’s descriptions and other relevant sources that address this method and similar approaches to aligning and planing wooden surfaces by hand. The goal is to assess its usability and relevance for future hand planing. The text explores these aspects by analysing and comparing the writings of A. J. Roubo and other literature on hand planing methods, as well as through testing the method with experiments. The findings, presented in a discussion and experimentations, indicate that Roubo's method serves as a viable alternative to other alignment techniques and may even be preferable in certain cases.
