Way Out West genom besökarnas ögon: En kvalitativ studie om kundresan och upplevelser av varumärke och hållbarhet i en festivalmiljö

Abstract

Description

The purpose of this study is to explore how visitors experience Way Out West as a brand during the customer journey (before, during, and after the festival). It also examines how the festival’s sustainability profile and sustainability actions influence the overall brand experience. The study is based on theories of experiential marketing, customer experience, and green brand experience, with a focus on touchpoints and how experiences develop over time. This study uses a qualitative approach and is based on semi-structured interviews with ten young adults who attended Way Out West between 2022 and 2025. The data were analysed using thematic analysis. The results show that Way Out West is seen as an experience-based brand, where the overall impression is created through the combination of the festival location, music, social community, and digital platforms. The experience starts before the festival through expectations and social influence, is strongest during the event, and continues afterwards through memories and sharing on social media. Sustainability is seen as positive, but it is often viewed as something expected rather than a main reason for attending. Its importance becomes stronger when sustainability actions are clearly visible and part of the festival experience. The study suggests that organisers should make sustainability efforts more visible and connect them more clearly to key touchpoints to strengthen credibility and the overall brand experience. The study is limited to young visitors, which may reduce how well the results apply to other groups.
