Abstract
This bachelor's thesis is a study of the variation of basic forms given the Swedish appeltrees. As a cultural custodian in gardening, my task is to see values in the green environment and manage them for the future. By mapping the basic forms of the apple tree based on the Swedish printed literature between 1852–2021, an inventory of names from the past has been collected. A total of 39 books have been treated where the main sections regarding pruning and fruit trees have been inventoried. The survey is limited to the detached apple tree with one breeding point. The result shows that it is possible to understand and raise awareness of changes over time regarding form and can read out time layers in existing apple trees. The legibility of different forms is required and can thus serve as an orientation in the work to preserve the tree's basic form. The result also serves as a guide for period-typical design for cultural environments where planting is relevant. Through a thematic analysis, the collected formulations have been able to be categorized into two main groups. These in turn have subgroups that include the various named forms. A total of 36 different names have previously been found. The survey shows that the understanding of the entire tree's design is required to carry out knowledge of the tree's components, stem height and pruned form. Together, the components form a final design of the apple tree at different times. These show as illustrations in an appendix.
