| Background: The intensive care nurse is daily exposed to work-related stress. Stress is a reaction to a stimulus and in order to not suffer from negative consequences of stress, coping strategies are required. In the absence of coping strategies, the intensive care nurse can develop health issues. The ICN's ethical code states, among other things, that the nurse should work to maintain their own health in order to not compromise the ability to provide good care with preserved patient safety. Aim: To illustrate the intensive care nurse´s experienced stress and coping strategies in relation to the potential impact on patient safety. Methods: A systematic literature review including both qualitative and quantitative articles. The search was made in a primary and a secondary stage in the databases Cinahl and PubMed. Data was extracted and analyzed with support from a methodological model in three steps by Bettany- Saltikov och McSherry. Results: The result is based on 15 articles and is presented in the form of four themes; The inner conflict to caring among intensive care nurses, The importance of collaboration, The influence and responsibility of the intensive care organization and The individual basis of the intensive care nurse to manage stress. Conclusions: The results indicated that the aspects that the intensive care nurse experienced as stressful at their workplace concerned inner conflicts regarding the care and flaws in the collaboration and organization. The results also indicate that stress is perceived to have a negative effect on patient safety as well as the importance of coping strategies to maintain own health to guarantee a safe care. | sv | |
| Bakgrund: Intensivvårdssjuksköterskan utsätts dagligen för arbetsrelaterad stress. Stress innebär en reaktion på ett stimuli och för att inte drabbas av negativa konsekvenser av stress krävs copingstrategier. Vid brist på copingstrategier kan ohälsa uppstå hos intensivvårdssjuksköterskan. I ICN´s etiska kod står bland annat att sjuksköterskan bör arbeta för att bibehålla sin egen hälsa för att inte äventyra förmågan att ge god vård med bevarad patientsäkerhet. Syfte: Att belysa intensivvårdssjuksköterskans upplevda stress och copingstrategier i relation till deras potentiella inverkan på patientsäkerheten. Metod: En systematisk litteraturstudie med både kvalitativa och kvantitativa artiklar inkluderade. Sökningen utfördes i en primär- och en sekundär sökning i databaserna Cinahl och PubMed. Bearbetning och analys av data har utförts med stöd av en trestegsmodell av Bettany- Saltikov och McSherry. Resultat: Resultatet baseras på 15 artiklar och redovisas i form av fyra teman; Intensivvårdssjuksköterskans inre konflikt till vårdandet, Samarbetets betydelse, Intensivvårdsorganisationens inverkan och ansvar och Intensivvårdssjuksköterskans individuella förutsättningar till att hantera stress. Slutsats: Resultatet indikerade att de aspekter som intensivvårdssjuksköterskan upplevde stressiga på sin arbetsplats berörde inre konflikter till vårdandet samt brister i samarbetet och i organisationen. Resultatet belyser också att stress upplevs försämra patientsäkerheten, samt vikten av copingstrategier för att tillgodose den egna hälsan och i förlängningen en säker vård. | sv | |
