En undersökning av tre olika behandlingsmedels effekt på vegetabiliskt garvat läder för bokband

Abstract

For a long time lubrication of leather bindings was a standard conservation treatment. When adverse effects were starting to show surface coatings became popular. In this paper a lubricant, a leather dressing and a surface coating for vegetable tanned bookbinding leather are tested. A major part of the experimental research was to record the measuring of shrinkage temperature to a computer. In addition to this flexibility, pH and changes in dimension were measured inter alia. The paper opens with a brief theoretical background. The material tested was not large enough to statistically ensure the results, and they indicated different results in new versus historical leather.
