Abstract

This study seeks to develop the understanding of the connection between increased levels of disinformation in EU member states and their trust in the EU. It also studies the effect trust in media has on the connection between disinformation and trust in the EU. The study uses Multiple linear regression to test the connection on a quantitative level in an attempt to fill the current research gap on quantitative studies in the field of disinformation and political trust. The findings of the study are that there seems to be a small correlation between lower degrees of disinformation in a member state and higher trust in the EU. It also finds that higher trust in media has a negative effect on the connection between disinformation and trust in the EU.
