Abstract
The paper "Swedish manufacturing companies” strategies for managing supply chain disruptions examines the manner in which Swedish manufacturing companies adapt their strategies for managing disruptions in global supply chains. Using a combination of primary and secondary sources, including semi-structured interviews with representatives from four Swedish manufacturing companies as well as an expert in logistics, the study highlights the different methods used to ensure a robust supply chain. The study shows that global disruptions such as the pandemic have highlighted vulnerabilities in supply chains. In light of these challenges, Swedish manufacturing companies have implemented a number of strategies to enhance their resilience. These strategies include increasing safety stock, diversifying suppliers, improving communication and digitalisation. By maintaining larger stocks of critical components, companies can swiftly adapt to sudden changes in demand or supply disruptions. Supplier diversification reduces dependence on single suppliers and reduces the risk of supply chain disruptions. Improved communication and more efficient information flow within the supply chain allows companies to react more rapidly to disruptions and collaborate more effectively with suppliers. Investments in digital systems enhance transparency and predictability within the supply chain, facilitating more effective data management and accelerated decision-making. In order to maintain a well-functioning business in uncertain times, Swedish manufacturing companies must implement both short-term and long-term strategies. Flexibility and adaptability have been demonstrated to be crucial for success. By integrating digital systems and improving their supply chains, companies can reduce their vulnerability to global disruptions. The study demonstrates that a robust strategic supply chain is not solely about cost reduction and efficiency. It is also about creating systems that can withstand global disruptions. The findings of the study indicate that Swedish manufacturing companies have demonstrated the ability to address current challenges and prepare for future uncertainties through proactive measures and strategic planning.
