On 10th of March 2020, due to covid-19, the Swedish Public Health Agency raised the risk level to “very high”. Meeting restrictions were set to a maximum of 500 people. Before the month was ended public gatherings with over 50 participants were prohibited, making it impossible for traveling musicians to make a living. One year on it’s still looking grim. Some musicians have now waited twelve months for the moment when they can return to work. What happens to the working musicians during a pandemic? Through qualitative interviews, we have had six musicians share their experiences of the pandemic. We have taken part in their interpretations of their own creativity, precarity, economy and self-image during the pandemic. Together they give us an eclectic picture of what it is like to be a musician without an audience. While the level of vulnerability and difficulty in working varies, they all agree on one common driving force: passion.sv
