Abstract
In her study, Elin Landgren explores the art of trusting the physical expression of emotion in acting. Her aim is daring to suggest larger physical emotional expressions in the rehearsal process. Landgren, with her starting point in the acting history, delves into contemporary psychological concepts like psychophysics to understand how the emotional authenticity in acting is affected by the physicality. Examining her own acting journey and through conversations with a psychologist, Landgren confronts her struggles with performance anxiety and self-awareness and finds new perspectives that transform the acting from something self-revealing to a more concrete craft: a shift of focus from oneself to the audience. She is also reminded that theatre, as an art form, is amplified, which makes it easier for Landgren to gather courage to suggest larger expressions.
