Abstract
Standard explanations of voting behavior of people with immigrant background and anti immigrant sentiments would predict people with an immigrant background to not vote for
anti-immigration parties. However, this does not seem to be the case. This thesis examines if
people with an immigrant background vote for anti-immigrant parties if they have anti immigrant sentiment. With data from the 2022 VALU questionnaire from the Swedish
national election, results from linear and logistic regression show that people with an
immigrant background in Sweden who has anti-immigrant sentiments have a much higher
probability of voting for the anti-immigrant party in Sweden. The results also indicate that
people with immigrant background from non-European countries are less likely to vote for the
anti-immigration party, although this finding is less robust. This gives a unique new
contribution to prior research about immigrant’s voting behavior, which often have lacked
perspectives on immigrants that vote for anti-immigrant parties.
