Abstract
This thesis aims to develop a method designed for the repair of log houses. The method focuses on repairs where whole logs in a wall of a building are in need of replacement. The method involves shaping the topside of a log after the longitudinal groove at the bottom of another log, through the use of a template board. Literature regarding this subject is very scarce. This thesis aims to fill that gap of knowledge while simultaneously describing the steps of the method. The template board is employed as a tool for transferring measurements from the longitudinal groove from a log, to the log that is to be inserted under the log measurements were taken from. This thesis was inspired by Paula Kristoffersens (2024) thesis Det praktiska intellektet, which describes the basics of using the template board during repairs of log houses. The information gathered from Kristoffersens (2024) thesis together with the authors own experiences in the field of repairing log houses was used to create a hypothesis of the method. The hypothesis was then put through a series of craft trials to verify its functionality. The data acquired from the craft trials was then used to create a new improved hypothesis. The results from the craft trials involving the different hypothesises created during the making of this thesis is reviewed and discussed at the end of the thesis.
