Tracing the ephemeral

Abstract

This project traces the ephemeral experience of music through a combination of artistic practice and written reflection. The author is a composer and musician who primarily works with an acoustic music that emphasizes the concert as listening experience. Within this array of possibilities, music is disappearing, while at the same time revealing something significant to its listeners. Is it possible to trace in writing this disappearing-revealing relationship? This concern is researched within the framework of this project through the composing of three musical works. No definite answers or conclusions are given, but an artistic practice emerges in which attention is essential.
