Abstract

Description

Background: To prevent the spread of Covid-19 among the elderly population and other vulnerable groups, several types of protections were implemented during the pandemic. In general, the established measures for Covid-19 were the use of a face mask as well as maintaining social distance These measures led to an impact on the mental and physical health of older adults with hearing loss. Objective: This study examines how the recommended restrictions during the Covid-19-pandemic, such as social distancing and the use of a face mask, have affected the hearing health of older adults with hearing loss and/or hearing aids/cochlear implants. It also examines the effects of social isolation and the challenges faced by this population. Material & Method: This literature study analyzes eight scientific articles published between 2019-2023, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods. It examines the experiences of older individuals. Results: The restrictions during the Covid-19-pandemic have had a significant negative impact on older individuals with hearing loss, leading to increased depression, stress, anxiety, and loneliness. Studies suggest that their interactions with healthcare professionals and social circles have been negatively affected. Conclusion: The study concludes that Covid-19 measures have had a significant negative impact on hearing health in adults with hearing loss.
