| Abstract: Postlingually deafened elderly rehabilitated with cochlear implant (CI) improve their quality of life to the same extent as younger CI users despite the fact that age can have a negative impact on speech understanding in noise. It is important to be aware of this when rehabilitating postlingually deafened elderly. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the impact a CI has on elderly postlingually deafened people’s quality of life and if age is a crucial factor in the patient’s speech perception and perceived quality of life. Method: This literature study is based on fifteen scientific articles published between 2000 and 2015. They have been found through the databases Scopus and Pubmed. Results: The results show that the quality of life of elderly increases significantly after a CI operation. Age may affect speech understanding in noise in a negative direction but this does not affect the quality of life in a negative way. Conclusion: Age itself is not a factor for denying someone a CI. Quality of life should get more attention in the rehabilitation of elderly CI-users and the use of a standardized tool in order to measure quality of life should be used more frequently. | sv | |
| Äldre vuxendöva som rehabiliteras med cochleaimplant (CI) förbättrar sin livskvalitet i samma utsträckning som yngre CI-användare trots att åldern kan ha en negativ inverkan på taluppfattning i brus. Detta är viktigt att känna till vid rehabiliteringen av äldre vuxendöva. Syfte: Syftet med denna litteraturstudie är att undersöka hur livskvaliteten hos äldre vuxendöva påverkas av att få ett CI och om åldern i sig är en avgörande faktor för patientens taluppfattning och upplevda livskvalitet. Metod: Litteraturstudien är baserad på femton vetenskapliga artiklar publicerade mellan åren 2000 och 2015 som hittats via databaserna Scopus och Pubmed. Resultat: Resultatet visar att livskvaliteten hos äldre ökar signifikant efter en CI-operation. Åldern kan påverka taluppfattning i brus i en negativ riktning men detta påverkar inte livskvaliteten negativt. | sv | |
