Abstract

Today, methods for groupware evaluation are turning up as a response to the absence of quality in many of these applications. With this essay we aimed to find out whether it is possible to use a method or framework for evaluation when building a Computer Supported Collaborative Work environment. By integrating this framework into the analysis, design, development and evaluation of a prototype, using beta versions of the Microsoft Office 2007 client and server applications, we tried to answer this question. To further secure the validity of this essay we carried out our work in a commercial environment, with the help of experienced groupware professionals. We concluded that this method of building CSCW environments can work, although modifications and further research, some of which we present suggestions to, are necessary to achieve a fully working method for this kind of development.
