Abstract

Background: Sweden strives towards a vision called “vision zero”. This vision has been developed by the Swedish Transport Administration to reach zero deaths and seriously injured in the road system. To achieve this vision the Swedish Transport Administration can’t work alone with traffic safety, businesses in our society also has to take on this challenge. ISO 39001, a new certification regarding traffic safety, can engage companies to work with traffic safety. In addition to traffic safety ISO 39001 contributes to other gains through the quality management it also implies. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the Swedish Transport Administration motives to support ISO 39001 as a certification and to investigate businesses motives to adopt this certification. Furthermore the purpose is to compare Swedish Transport administration motives to support ISO 39001 towards the companies’ motives to adopt this certification. Research questions:  What motives exists for companies to adopt a quality management system in means of ISO 39001?  What are Swedish Transport Administration motives to support ISO 39001 certification?  Do these motives differ from each other and in what way? Method: A qualitative method has been adopted to achieve a good insight in companies’ motives to accept ISO 39001. Semi-structured interviews and email-interviews have been conducted with certified companies within the transport industry in Sweden. Conclusion: Company’s core-motive to accept and certificate according to ISO 39001 is to gain more profit. The interviewed companies indicate that ISO 39001 can lead to gains such as; a more structured way of operating, enhanced brand value and environmental benefits. Prior traffic management systems were also a motive to certify. According to Claes Tingvall, Swedish Transport Administration motives to support ISO 39001 are to strive towards the “vision zero”. The motives of Swedish Transport Administration and other companies differ, the companies’ want to gain more profit in contrast to Swedish Transport administration that strives towards the “vision zero”. A structured way of working is a core factor within both ISO 39001 and “vision zero”. This means the same way of working and thereby can the same advantages be gained.

Bakgrund: Sverige strävar efter att nå en vision kallad nollvisionen. Visionen har tagits fram av Trafikverket för att nå noll dödsfall och allvarligt skadade i trafiken. För att nå nollvisionen kan inte endast staten inkluderat Trafikverket arbeta mot den, organisationer i samhället bör också sträva mot visionen. Genom att certifiera sig enligt ISO 39001 som är en standard för trafiksäkerhet kan företag hjälpa staten inkluderat Trafikverket att arbeta för nollvisionen. En certifiering enligt ISO 39001 hjälper inte endast organisationer med att utföra ett trafiksäkerhetsarbete, den bidrar även till många andra fördelar genom den kvalitetssäkring den innebär. Syfte: Uppsatsens syfte är att undersöka Trafikverkets motiv till att stödja ISO 39001 samt företags motiv till att anta denna certifiering. Ytterligare är syftet att se till företags motiv till att anta certifieringen gentemot Trafikverkets motiv till att stödja certifieringen. Frågeställningar:  Vilka motiv existerar för företag att anta ett kvalitetssäkringssystem i form av ISO 39001?  Vilka/vilket är Trafikverkets motiv till att stödja ISO 39001 certifiering?  Skiljer sig dessa motiv åt och på vilket sätt? Metod: För att få insikt i ISO 39001 certifierade företags motiv till certifiering har en kvalitativ metod använts. Semistrukturerade intervjuer och strukturerade epostintervjuer har genomförts med ISO 39001 certifierade företag inom den svenska transportbranschen. Slutsats: De intervjuade företagens grundmotiv till att certifiera sig enligt ISO 39001 är att erhålla en ökad lönsamhet. Tidigare arbete med trafiksäkerhet är även ett motiv till att certifiera sig. De intervjuade företagen anger att en ISO 39001 certifiering medför flera positiva fördelar som: ett strukturerat arbetssätt, ett förstärkt varumärke och en positiv miljöeffekt. Trafikverket vill enligt Claes Tingvall att företag certifierar sig enligt ISO 39001 för att arbeta mot en nollvision i trafiken. Motiven för att certifiera sig enligt ISO 39001 skiljer sig alltså åt mellan de olika aktörerna. Däremot innebär nollvisionen och ISO 39001 att ett strukturerat arbete utförs i verksamheten. Därför baseras arbetet, oavsett motiv, på samma grund. Det innebär att samma fördelar kan erhållas.
