Background och problem: ESG questions are becoming more and more relevant in todays society and nowadays the ESG questions have an influence on corporate investment choices. The construction industry is one of the sectors making large investments and contributiong to a considerable part of Swedens´s carbon dioxide emissions. Purpose: The study aims to formulate a hypothesis on how investments in electrified machines are justified for rental companies within the construction industry and how this can be further investigated. Limitations: The study is limited to equipment rental companies within Sweden with a revenue of over 150 million SEK. Method: The study is an exploratory study where data has been collected through three interviews. The collected empirical data has been analyzed using the essay´s theoretical frame of reference. Results and conclusions: The study has resulted in a hypothesis about why equipment rental companies choose to invest in electrical machines. The hypothesis is that the equipment rental companies choose to invest in electrical machines to create long-term competitive advantages rather than fpr short-term economic profit.
