Abstract
This thesis investigates the role of Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) in promoting the internationalization of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) through network mediation. The study focuses on how TBIs facilitate the growth of healthtech and life science firms in Sweden by providing resources, knowledge, and networking opportunities. The research employs a qualitative approach, including interviews with 13 companies involved in a Sahlgrenska Science Park, to understand their experiences and the benefits derived from TBI services.
Findings indicate that TBIs contribute to network expansion and increased firm credibility, essential for overcoming internationalization challenges. However, the impact on knowledge transfer regarding new markets is limited. The study also highlights the importance of firm engagement in maximizing the benefits of TBI programs. Recommendations on TBI best practices include enhancing international collaboration, optimizing networking activities, and fostering a balanced industry focus within incubators to improve collaboration and support for early internationalization efforts.
