Abstract
Students and teachers agree that education on sexuality and relationships is important. However, there is a gap between what students want to learn about these topics and the content currently covered in the curriculum. This thesis presents a literature review that identifies the themes students are most interested in regarding sexuality and relationships education. It also examines the current focus of instruction and the shortcomings that students perceive in how the subject is taught. Furthermore, the study explores the evolving direction of sexuality and relationships education, highlighting emerging trends in Swedish curriculum reforms aimed at aligning more closely with students' interests. The literature review incorporates studies from a wide range of global contexts. Interestingly, the findings reveal that student requests for content tend to be similar regardless of geographical or cultural background. Students consistently express a desire for a more varied curriculum that includes relational and emotional aspects, discussions of sexual pleasure, as well as topics on sexual orientation and gender identity. They also call for a positive, inclusive approach to sexuality education that provides a more comprehensive perspective. One notable criticism from students is that teachers often lack adequate knowledge and appear uncomfortable when delivering the material.
