| This thesis is an attempt to investigate the possibilities of protecting historic neon signs as heritage with some of the two Swedish laws that protect the built heritage. Kulturmiljölagen (SFS 1988:950) and Plan- och bygglagen (SFS 2010:900). Furthermore, to investigate if it could be more relevant to protect the visual expression of a neon sign than to protect the old technology of the sign. To achieve this, the work is based on literature studies, studies of laws and regulations, interview with administrative official and four case studies where neon signs have been protected as built heritage. The study concludes that it is possible to protect neon signs as a part of the built heritage if the value of the sign is an important part of the total historically value that the sign is a part of. The study of one of the case studies showed that in that case the importance of the visual impresion was not more important to protect than the old technology. This was clear after a statement done by the court of administrative law. | sv | |
