Abstract
In this essay I will attempt to answer my thesis “Which variants of conservatism are expressed in the political document Tidö 2.0? - An ideological analysis of National conservatism, Revolutionary conservatism and Liberal conservatism”. The purpose is to analyze how liberal conservatism, national conservatism, revolutionary conservatism and populism are articulated across different policy areas in the document through an ideological analysis. The study applies a qualitative ideological analysis based on three analytical dimensions: View on the state, nation and identity, view on social change and tradition and view on economic principles.
The analysis shows that Tidö 2.0 is predominantly characterized by a liberal conservative ideology, particularly in the areas of economic policy, labour market policy, family policy and culture and civil policy. These areas highlight the individual responsibility, the work ethic, ownership and self-reliance, as well as a limited but clearly defined state focused on its core functions. At the same time, clear national conservative elements emerge in migration and criminal justice policy, where the state is assigned a strong role as an enforcer of order and boundaries. The study also identifies elements of populist rhetoric, especially through oppositional framings of ”ordinary people” in contrast to ”political elites” or ”large institutions”.
A key finding is the ideological asymmetry between family policy and migrations policy, both of which are linked to the future of the nation but governed by different ideological logics. Overall, the study demonstrates that Tidö 2.0 does not follow a consistent ideological framework, but combines different right-wing ideological traditions depending on the policy area. The results contribute to a deeper understanding of how Swedish right-wing politics is not following an ideological coherence but adapts depending on the political policy.
