Abstract

Description

In later years a development in the gaming industry has happened where a lot of the sales are in-game purchases, often called microtransactions. A lot of earlier studies in the field of gaming have measured and evaluated mobile phone users. In this study we chose to measure a group we assumed were more invested into their hobby in the form of PC and console gamers. In our study we investigated how experience and affective based factors affect gamers impulse buying tendencies of microtransactions. An online survey was conducted with 118 respondents. Questions regarding experience and affective based questions and their buying behaviour were asked. Our study found a positive relationship between social content, negative affect and hedonic content connected to impulse buying tendencies. We found no relationship between positive affect and flow experience connected to impulse buying tendencies. Impulse buying tendencies had a positive relationship with buying behaviour, this confirms that our measured factors also lead to a behaviour.
