Abstract

Introduktion: Tinnitus och hypertoni är vanliga hälsoproblem bland den äldre po-pulationen. Huruvida ett samband finns mellan tinnitus och hypertoni har under-sökts i flertalet studier, men resultaten är inte samstämmiga. Syfte: Syftet med detta examensarbete är att undersöka om förekomst samt grad av hypertoni har ett samband med förekomst och/eller besvärsgrad av tinnitus hos 70-åringar som är bosatta i Göteborg. Material & Metod: Denna tvärsnittsstudie baserades på insamlade data från H70-studien som genomfördes på 70-åringar (kohort 1944) under åren 2014–2015. Totalt 1180 personer (53% kvinnor) ingick i studien. Datan innefattade bland an-nat enkätfrågor om tinnitus, blodtrycksregistrering, hörselundersökning och an-vändning av blodtryckssänkande läkemedel. Datan analyserades i SPSS och de statistiska testen som användes var Spearmans rangkorrelation och Pearsons Chi-två-test. Resultat: Sambandet mellan förekomst samt grad av hypertoni och förekomst och/eller besvärsgrad av tinnitus var inte statistisk signifikant. Det fanns heller inga köns- eller hörselrelaterade skillnader avseende sambandet, och inget sam-band mellan tinnitus och blodtryckssänkande läkemedel. Slutsatser: Resultaten av detta examensarbete tyder på att det inte finns något samband mellan förekomst och grad av hypertoni och förekomst och/eller be-svärsgrad av tinnitus hos 70-åringar i Göteborg.

Introduction: Tinnitus and hypertension are common health problems in the el-derly population. The association between tinnitus and hypertension has been investigated in several studies, but the association between the two conditions is nonunanimous. Aim: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate whether the occurrence and se-verity of hypertension are associated with the occurrence and/or severity of tin-nitus in a population of 70-year-olds residing in the Gothenburg area. Material & Method: This cross-sectional study was based on data collected from the H70 study conducted on 70-year-olds (cohort 1944). A total of 1180 individ-uals (53% female) were studied. Data collected from the H70 study included tin-nitus assessment, blood pressure measurement, hearing examination, and use of antihypertensive medications. The data was analyzed in SPSS using statistical tests such as Spearman's rank correlation and Pearson's Chi-squared test. Results: The association between the occurrence and severity of hypertension and the occurrence and/or severity of tinnitus was not statistically significant. There were also no gender differences or hearing-related differences regarding the association between tinnitus and hypertension, and no association between tinnitus and use of antihypertensive medications. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that there is no association between the occurrence and severity of hypertension and the occurrence and/or severity of tinnitus in a population of 70-year-olds residing in Gothenburg.
