Abstract
Rachel J. Crellin’s Theory of Change is used through the lens of microarchaeology to examine the prehistory and historiography of ancient iron production in Norrbotten, Sweden. Data from Carina Bennerhag’s dissertation along with data from several Fennoscandian arctic sites with evidence of iron production is used in this endeavor. A comprehensive research history is established to refute a more simplistic one from the above-mentioned dissertation. The microarchaeological concepts of social formations as well as assemblage is then used to further complicate the individual concepts involved in iron production as well as the introduction of iron production to Norrbotten.
