Hur Gud tar sig ton! Om musik som ett skapelsegivet kommunikationsmedel för människans tro.
How God takes a tone! Music as creation given means of communication for the faith of humans.
Abstract
This study explores how music can be seen as a vehicle for religious faith.
How does music transcend beliefs and messages from God to humans, and how can it be used as a way of interpreting and recognizing the supreme, ultimate existence that people refer to as “God”? Music has been used as an important expression in religious cults throughout times. It has been used as a healing force, in accordance with what has been said about God's willingness to heal humans. Historical examples include Paul, Origen, St. Gregory, Luther, and Bach, who all share common ground in many contemporary scholars' works.
The writer studies theses, statements, thoughts, and perspectives from theologians who have studied this subject area and musicians who have been outspoken on these issues and comparing them to each other. The examples include both classical composers from the last centuries and a few contemporary British songwriters. It is clear that music as an art form very likely can transcend signs of and messages from God, as well as amplify those expressed in words. Furthermore, it can be said that music, in its very essence, is a credo.
