Enhancing Workforce Diversity and Inclusion for Asian and African Immigrants in Sweden: Challenges and Initiatives to bridge the employment gap.
Abstract
Purpose: This research aims to explore the challenges and initiatives to enhance workforce diversity for Asian and African immigrants in Sweden. The study focuses on understanding the obstacles faced by immigrants from non-European backgrounds when entering the Swedish job market, particularly emphasizing the unique challenges faced by the Asian and African group.
Theory: We incorporated three theories into our study. Firstly, the Acculturation Theory offers valuable insights into cultural complexities within organizations, suggesting strategies for enhancing diversity and inclusion within Sweden. Secondly, the Social Identity theory explores intergroup conflicts in the workplace and their impact on job experiences, highlighting obstacles to diversity and inclusion while also showcasing opportunities for intergroup cooperation. Finally, the Institutional Theory examines how institutional norms and structures influence individuals and organizations, providing a lens through which to understand the employment prospects of immigrants within the Swedish labor market.
Method: We have chosen a qualitative methodological approach. The interviews are semi structured, and our sampling strategy employed a combination of purposive and snowball sampling methods. Data was gathered from twenty-one individuals, including immigrants and job coaches, through interviews conducted between February and April 2024. Participants were chosen to

The research underscores the importance of cultural competency training, inclusive recruitment processes, and promoting diversity within organizations to address these challenges effectively
