The Internationalization Process of Artificial Intelligence In A World of Tech Giants
Abstract
This thesis investigates the global expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and the
resources, and partnerships needed to succeed with internationalization of AI solutions. With the
increasing importance of AI, big companies are driving its growth. Internationalization of AI does not
take on a classical strategy, where the companies are brought to the global market, instead it is the
products that are internationalized. This has resulted in a move away from traditional methods of their
internationalization, with smaller companies partnering with tech giants to work in cooperation, and
accelerate the process. This study seeks to determine what it takes for AI to succeed internationally by
investigating how small and large companies collaborate. Using a multiple case study design based on
six cases, this study investigates the internationalization process of AI, and the resources and
partnerships that are needed for AI solutions to grow internationally. The result demonstrates that the
success of AI solution internationalization is dependent on strategic collaboration, and effective
resource allocation through networks of partnerships, co-creations, and labor division. This method
has been shown to benefit firms to overcome problems in new markets while ensuring the continual
growth and improvement of AI solutions.
