Abstract
totala verifierade utsläpp inom systemet i Sverige.

Other description
To reduce emissions in the EU a trade system for emission allowances has been implemented.
This puts a price on greenhouse gas emissions and results in a cost for the companies that are
included in the system. Every year The EU delegates free allowances to companies inside the
system. However, in recent years the free allowances allocated by the EU have declined and
are currently less than the total verified emissions within the system in Sweden. Previous
studies have shown that the system decreases emission yet not harming the economic
performance of the companies. This study focuses on EU ETS in Sweden, especially on four
of the largest emitters of the Stockholm stock exchange, SSAB, Essity, Boliden and SKF. The
impact on the company's emissions and profitability is studied. Moreover, the study examines
how well positioned the selected companies and Sweden as a country are to fulfill their
climate goals. This is done due to the possibility of further regulations that can be
implemented in order for them to reach their goals. To see the impact on emissions and
profitability, data is collected from annual reports and from the EU webpage for transactions
within the trading system. The study of the emission goals is more qualitative and requires
that the companies strategies for decreasing their emissions are examined, but also a forecast
of future emission based on historical data. This report finds that the impact on companies
profitability from EU ETS has been low, under 1% for Essity and Boliden and under 5% for
SSAB, compared with their adjusted operating result. However, the impact can grow larger in
the future, for some highly polluting companies this can imply a cost that's more than a third
of their operating result if they don't decrease their emissions.
