HAR DAGENS UNGA FUNNIT HJÄRNAN I FÖRTID? En kvantitativ studie över förstagångsväljarnas politiska positionering åren 1992–2021
Abstract
This study explores the political inclinations of young voters over a period for the last 30 years (1992- 2021), focusing on the question of whether there has been a political shift among the young
population. Usually, the assumptions are that young voters are more liberal and take a position to the left on the political dimension. In recent years conservative parties have been growing in Sweden,
especially among young voters. The research examines Swedish first-time voters’ political positions for each year between 1992 and 2021 and covers a range of socio-political factors, including tax attitudes and attitudes towards immigration. Results indicate political positions have changed among young
voters in the last 30 years. More young voters today are leaning to the right and voting for
conservative parties. Which is a political shift compared to the 1990´s and early 2000´s. The study is based on data from The SOM-institute Cumulative dataset, 1986-2021, which is used for statistical
analyses of young voters political positions over time.
