Bildämnet i Sverige och Finland En jämförelse mellan de nationella kursplanerna i årskurs 7-9
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to draw attention to differences and similarities between
the subject visual arts in Sweden and Finland through analysis of syllabi in both
countries in certain selected subject areas. Is there a theme that takes up more or less
space in one of the countries' curricula? Can Sweden learn anything from Finland and
Finland from Sweden? The method for the study has been content analysis and text
analysis of the countries' course objectives in five different themes. Among other things,
the results have shown that Finland makes more use of cooperation between students in
the form of various group work in the subject of visual art. This is something the
Swedish syllabus in visual art does not mention. This could be interesting for Swedish
research.
The study also includes a comparative literature study in which the countries' curricula
are compared to. Through analysis of syllabi, some similarities and differences between
the visual art in Sweden and Finland will be noticed. A delimitation has been made in
where five themes have been selected for further investigation. It examines how image
analysis is emphasized, techniques in different artistic techniques is formulated, how it
is described that students should collaborate, how it is described that students should
work with culture and visual culture within visual art. This is analyzed with the help of
content analysis where the countries' syllabi in visual art are compared and where this
five above mentioned themes are examined and analyzed, based on curriculum theory to
be able to discern what the countries possibly focus on, within selected themes.
