The aim of this study was to investigate how afroswedish women in leading positions experience their career advancement. The questions we wanted answered were: What opportunities or limitations do afroswedish women describe that they were faced with in their career towards a leading position? What strategies do afroswedish women in leading positions state that they have had to manage possible setbacks? How do they now view their leading position and relationship with others around them? The material consisted of six qualitative interviews with afroswedish women in leading positions. We used a qualitative method and analyzed the empirics using postcolonialism, Bourdieu's capital theory and intersectionality. The results of the study show that afroswedish women face setbacks on the path to a leading position due to racism and the dominance of ”white rooms”, which has led these women to develop strategies to deal with these setbacks. Obtaining a leading position becomes a platform where factors such as gender, ethnicity and class act on and create different conditions. Therefore, these three factors must be understood integrated with each other to understand how afroswedish women in leading positions experience their career development.sv
