The background to this subject is that The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) has built several camps with facilities and infrastructure to grant access for humanitarian workers to carry out humanitarian aid, in otherwise inaccessible areas. The purpose of this study is therefore to increase knowledge and understanding for organization of Facility Management (FM) in the humanitarian context, by examining what characterizes it, how different actors perceives it, and what the long-term prerequisites are. Several interviews with different actors in U.N organizations, MSB, and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) have been conducted. The theoretical framework consists of perspectives in Facility Management, bureaucracy and communication. Results mainly showed that FM is hardly communicated through the organizations, although the need of it is explained as necessary. Other characteristics of this subject was lack of long-term plans, diverse interpretations of FM as well as economic mindsets that does not match with the economic structures which the humanitarian camps are supposed to conduct after. Conclusions are that these deficiencies are essential factors to take into account for positioning and long-term organization of FM in the humanitarian context. Yet, the humanitarian context is too complex to expect that all deficiencies can be addressed. Thus, the study's main conclusion is that FM in the humanitarian context is a continuous and proactive process and cannot be designed solely according to the general context in which the organizations operates. FM should rather be designed according to each property and facilities individual conditions.sv
