Borde vi gå före? En kvantitativ studie på göteborgares betalningsvilja för olika klimatmål
Should Sweden take the lead? A quantitative study of the willingness to pay for different climate mitigation targets among the citizens of Gothenburg
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the willingness to pay for two climate mitigation targets among the citizens of Gothenburg. The studied targets were the Swedish commitment within the Paris Agreement and the national target in Sweden. Contingent Valuation Method was used to estimate the willingness to pay and the sample was collected in different parts of Gothenburg containing 204 respondents between the ages of 18 and 80.
The study shows that the estimated individual willingness to pay for the commitment within the Paris Agreement was 605 SEK per month and the individual willingness to pay for the national target was estimated to an additional 254 SEK per month. We also found that the willingness to pay for the national target depends on how it might affect other countries’ ambitions regarding climate mitigation. Finally, the result also showed significant effects on the willingness to pay when the individual held positive attitudes towards limiting global warming.
