Abstract: Background and aim: There is a concern that biocides and metals can co-select for antibiotic resistance. The aim of this thesis is to enhance our understanding of the roles of antibacterial biocides (e.g. antiseptics, disinfectants) and metals (e.g. copper, zinc) in developing, promoting and maintaining antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
