Adelsnäs Gardening School – A Cultural and Historical Survey and Valuation The
The aim of this thesis is to broaden the historical knowledge of the gardening school at Adelsnäs and also to identify the cultural values of the site. The historical survey concerns the facilities, education and assortment of the school which is supplemented with an inventory and a description of the present situation. By the compiled material, based on a developed model, an analysis of the sites cultural values is made. The study also aims to be the basis for a continued work with the preservation of the cultural heritage. The used methods are primarily archive studies, field surveys and interviews. Mainly the source material from the gardening schools archive is used to answer the issues of the study and photographs are used for the analysis of structures and plants. A developed method for analyzing the sites cultural values prevents the study to become solely subjective and theories for preservation of sites with cultural values affects the study. Students were expected to work hard and contribute with the different chores in the garden. Many varieties of plants were grown in the nursery and they are presented in the study such as the results of the field survey. Several cultivated plants were found in the arboretum next to the main building. The result satisfies parts of the knowledge gap that used to be a problem and several cultural values has been identified.
