När vulkanen fick utbrott - En studie av den första generationen punkare i Göteborg och deras minnen och berättelser.
Abstract
This study focuses on the punk scene in the late nineteen-seventies. The aim is to
analyze how members of the first generation of punks in Gothenburg create their
stories about how they experienced the time when the punk scene in the city was
born.
The investigation is based on eight interviews and one set of memory notes which
are analyzed with a theory inspired by the article ”Affective Ordering: On the
Organization of Retrologies in Music Networks” (2012) by Sverker Hyltén-
Cavallius and Lars Kaijser, and also Birgitta Svensson’s ideas about life stories.
Svensson’s text can be found in the anthology Skjorta eller själ? (1997).
The investigation shows how the former punks use fragments like records, band
names, songs and other music related information when they answer questions
about their identity formation. It shows how the music itself works as a foundation
pillar for the subculture. The study also shows how and why street addresses and
special events, like festivals and concerts, are valuable tools when producing their
life stories. The investigation also shows how their self-composed music is a great
help in the identity formation, but also when it comes to creating their life stories.
Finally the investigation shows how the background as punks is useful in the
persons' lives today.
