TOTEMISTIC - FROM GARDEN TO GALLERY TO FOREST
Supported by
Commissioned by the Charles Felix Lindbergh fund for the city of Göteborg
Description of project
In 2007 I started tying wooden objects to a tree that in the early spring had been stripped clean of bark by the birds searching for larva.Years ago I had visited St. Ann de Beaupré, the Lourdes of Quebec Canada where after having taken the waters the cured tied their crutches onto a stone column. These two phenomena led to a 5 year process of tying handmade wooden objects onto the tree. The
objects were from many different cultures found in flea markets. Some fell off, or were eroded by weather; each year new additions.
The sculpture installation includes a series of plaques "Du kommer att få en gåva" (You will receive a gift) which are placed beside the path as you walk toward the sculpture.
A version of the sculpture was made for the exhibition "Was I thinking of woodgrain….or just bored in the wunderkammer?" at Galleri
Konstepidimein, Göteborg 2013.
