Abstract

A lack of maintenance causes our land to close up around us as the former open areas is overgrown with vegetation. Remains of our history is left unattended to be broken down by roots that loosens earth and stones. One of these remains are Råbäcks lime mortar. During the end of the 80's beginning of the 90's there was a big clearing done of vegetation in the area. Butt lack of resources however soon caused a closure of that project. The need of restoration is a growing question due to the rationalisation of forestry and farming. Monotone areas create a harsh environment for the plants and species who thrived in the mosaic landscape from less then hundred years ago. Overgrowth is currently the main cause of damage in areas where maintenance has expired. Roots from trees and bushes blowing up cairns, historic industrial sites, terrace edges and visible traces and relics that remain after man's way of life and activity through time. To restore these forgotten places and preserve them for the future is of big importance for our knowledge and interpetation of history. To maintain and restore a location however there needs to be clear definitions of vision, purpose, and method specified in a management plan. This works aim is to establish a foundation for the construction of a maintenance plan for Råbäcks lime mortar through a proposal for mangement. Since Råbäcks lime mortar is a big area to take care of and continued maintenance is critical to its continued existence, is the mangenent proposal based on a prioritation of 3 smaller management areas. Which then are categorized in order of prioritization.
