Abstract: Aims: To study the prevalence and incidence of depression in relation to cognitive function, dementia and brain atrophy in a representative sample of elderly persons. Methods: 70 and 74-year-old women (n=501) were studied in 1992-93 as part of the fourth phase of the Prospective Population Study of Women in Gothenburg, Sweden.
