TURISM OCH TRAFIKOLYCKOR En kvantitativ undersökning om turismens inverkan på trafikolyckor i Sydeuropa

Abstract
This essay examines the role tourism plays when it comes to the prevalence of traffic accidents in five countries located in Southern Europe. By analyzing variables which could have an impact on traffic accidents, I try to answer the question of whether tourism has an impact on traffic accidents or not, and if so, in what magnitude? Earlier works by numerous scholars are included as reference in this essay which aspires to be as collective and transparent as possible. What sets aside this essay from earlier, similar essays is that I analyze data by all the NUTS-regions which the countries are composed of, rather than looking at certain regions or individual countries. By collecting data from Eurostat and afterwards running linear regressions in SPSS. I come to the conclusion that tourism in fact does have a significant role in affecting the number of traffic accidents in a region, regardless of country. In my conclusion I discuss reasons for why that may be and how the EU potentially could work proactively in order to reduce the risks tourism imposes on traffic.
