Jag ångrar inte att jag blev lärare En global analys av lärares utvärdering av deras arbetssituation och yrkesval
Abstract
This paper examines how teachers over the world evaluate their work situation and their
choice of profession with a quantitative method. The paper uses data from the teacher
questionnaire from the 2022 PISA survey, and the questions within that asks the respondent if
they regret choosing to be a teacher and if they are generally happy with their work life. This
data is examined from factors both on systemic and individual level. The paper’s theory says
that some factors should affect the satisfaction positively. On systemic level Education index,
democracy and economy are mentioned, where on individual level gender, age and education
is used. There is also one factor on each level that is impossible to operationalize, the grade of
New public management in the country, and if the teacher has a parent that works/has worked
in pedagogy. The result is that most teachers tend to answer considerably more positively on
most of the questions, ergo they are satisfied and not regretful. The Dominican Republic
stands out as having answered the most positively, and Portugal the most negatively.
Regarding the systemic factors, they all affect the satisfaction negatively, contrary to theory.
Age tends to affect satisfaction positively, and so does teachers’ education. Gender pertaining
regret affects negatively, where men tend to regret their work choice more.
