SVIKTANDE STÖD TILL MILJÖPOLITIK En kvantitativ studie kring politisk orientering och stöd till miljöpolitik i Sverige under kristider

Abstract

Climate change is a major political challenge, and the public opinion can play a big role in addressing it. It’s therefore relevant to examine which factors influence individuals’ support towards environmental policy. Previous research indicates that this can be understood from political orientation (Jagers m.fl 2018, s. 86-7). But due to increasing crisis it’s also relevant to examine if the relationship between political orientation and support towards environmental policy change under circumstances. Since previous research has not focused on this, it's interesting to investigate whether the relationship change. The material consists of data from Eurobarometer both from 2017 and 2021, the impact of the corona crisis can in this way be made visible. Due to contextual factors it’s more rewarding to examine the connection within individual countries and by using a quantitative method, the result of a multivariate analysis can be generalized to a whole population. The result of this study indicates that the relationship becomes more noticeable under a crisis. The aim and result contribute to the research field around individual’s support and attitudes towards environmental policy and knowledge about how crisis effect this and further to the aspect of promoting international cooperation around environmental policy.
