En kartläggning av invändiga fönsterluckors utbredning och konstruktion

A mapping of the prevalence and construction of interior window shutters

Sammanfattning
Interior window shutters can be found in historical buildings, but they are an uncommon occurrence in modern buildings. In modern contemporary construction, large glass panels are often the ideal because of increased light inflow and for architectural purposes. However, this can generate several negative effects, such as increased energy loss, lack of privacy and high sunlight penetration. Problems that window shutters could have accommodated historically. This thesis identifies a lack of knowledge about interior window shutters in the Swedish building stock. This emphasizes the need to map their presence and to understand their cultural-historical significance. To address these challenges, three questions are formulated: where do interior window shutters occur, how are they designed, and what function have they served? The purpose of this investigation is to map interior window shutters in and around Skaraborg county, to analyse their construction, and to interpret their original function. The investigation is divided into two steps: a general survey of interior shutters in castles and manors within the search area, and field studies on five buildings, focusing on documenting the design of the window shutters, their fittings and attachments and the rooms they occur in. The results show that boxing or folding shutters typically consists of framework constructions with flaps, and their fittings vary depending on age. Interior window shutters are found in buildings of various constructions, which results in different shutter designs. The results also indicates that interior shutters have been a valuable interior detail serving multiple functions, such as reducing the risk of burglary, saving energy, and controlling light inflow, for many centuries. Furthermore, it can be established that the prevalence of interior window shutters in stone houses from the 1700s is relatively extensive.
