Gör HR faktiskt skillnad? En fallstudie gällande HRMs betydelse för ett medelstort företag inom hotellbranschen
Abstract
Society is constantly changing, which means that organisations need to constantly adapt their strategies to the external factors affecting the business world. The new ideas concerning human resource management is part of the rapidly changing business environment, which requires that all organisations adapt their activities to these external transformations. These
changes do not only count for large enterprises, but are just as vital for small- and medium sized enterprises to keep up with.
The aim of this study is to analyse how HRM affects SMEs. In order to do so, we have chosen to study a Swedish medium-sized enterprise in the hotel sector who hired a HR-professional five years ago. Included in this analysis are the driving forces behind the implementation, how the implementation has been completed to ensure success, as well as the most tangible consequences. Overall, the study aims to broaden the knowledge of HRM’s meaning in SMEs, this with help from several theories such as Change Management and Sensemaking.
The main results drawn from this study shows an outcome that indicates a more distinctemployee structure on the observed organisation. The more distinct employee structure counts for several factors, e.g. clearer work routines, labour law regulations and division of responsibilities. As to this, some oppositions from the managers and workers regarding the HR-implementation has been made due to the higher workload. The overall result, however, indicates that the HR-implementation has contributed to the medium-sized enterprise being more efficient and competitive.
