ATT RESA MED ELLER MOT MILJÖN

En intervjustudie om hur klimatmedvetenhet, den byggda miljön och normer påverkar unga vuxna européers val av transportmedel i vardagen

Abstract
The purpose of this thesis has been to contribute to the research on the choice of transport in everyday travel. This has been investigated through qualitative interviews with young adults in Sweden and Germany. Four interviews were conducted with in total eight participants. The focus of this thesis has been on primarily three things. Firstly, what role climate awareness has in the choice of transport. Secondly, what role the built environment has in the choice of transport and thirdly, what role social norms has in the choice of transport. Previous research points to several factors that affects the choice of means of travel. This is said to be, among other things, the built environment and attitudes and intentions. However, the previous research does show some discrepancy regarding the role of climate awareness as a positive motivator to the choice of active travel. The material was analyzed through the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and the concept of place. The findings in this study shows that although the interviewees express great climate awareness and concern, they are much more influenced by the built environment than by climate awareness when it comes to the choice of means in their everyday travels. Which is in line with what some of the previous research points to.
