The aim of this thesis is to analyze if geopolitical risk has an effect on the volatility of the Swedish stock market. The methods: OLS-regression and quantile-regressions are used. Geopolitical risk is quantified using an index created by Caldara and Iacoviello (2018) that measures the geopolitical risk. The study is conducted using monthly data on different industries and indices based on market capitalization, in Sweden. The presented results suggest that the lower the market capitalization a company has, the higher correlation between its volatility and change in geopolitical risk. Companies with larger market capitalization seem to correlate more with how the volatility for the company has been in previous months than companies with lower market capitalization. For the industries, statistical significance was only reached for a few quantiles in a few industries. This is motivated by the share of large companies within the industries.
