Drottning Victorias vilohem - En trädgårdshistorisk undersökning av en park- och trädgårdsanläggning från 1800-talet
Queen Victoria’s rest home: a garden history survey of a garden from the 19th Century
Queen Victoria opened a rest home for elderly women close to Borgholm, Öland, in 1924. The building was erected during the mid–19th Century by the tenant Carl Hultenberg, who at the time also laid out a garden and an English landscape garden. Since the 20th Century the garden closest to the rest home has successively been simplified by the temporary style concepts dominating a particular time of that century. The objective of this thesis is to research and analyze the historical garden and park at Queen Victoria’s rest home. The aim is to give a picture of the garden and to what extent it is consistent with the gardens style ideal from the 19th Century. The results presented in the thesis could be used when creating a plan for the care-taking of the garden and the preservation of the cultural heritage that still remains at Queen Victoria’s rest home. The used methods consist of primarily field studies, an analysis of several photos and postcards, literature studies and interviews, resulting in a holistic depiction of the garden history of Queen Victoria’s rest home.
